Refocusing on Jesus – Our First "Family on Mission" Sunday

This past Sunday, February 2, 2025, was a special one at Watsonville Church of the Nazarene (WatsNaz) as we gathered for our first-ever "Family on Mission" Sunday! Instead of our usual seating arrangement, we sat around tables as families, friends, and community members, creating space for deeper conversation and reflection. Pastor Ryan Albaugh led us in a powerful message on refocusing our minds on Jesus, drawn from Philippians 4:8-9. With so many distractions pulling at our attention, we were challenged to intentionally fix our thoughts on what is true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, and commendable—aligning our minds with God's goodness rather than the fear and negativity so prevalent in our world.

Because this Sunday was all about discussion and engagement, Pastor Ryan kept his message a bit shorter than usual, giving us more time to talk, reflect, and apply the sermon together. It was an incredible opportunity to live out our mission as a family-focused, Bible-based church in Watsonville, creating a space where faith is not just preached but shared in meaningful conversation. Whether you’re from Freedom, Corralitos, Pajaro, or anywhere in the Monterey Bay area, our goal is to be a community church that helps each other live out our faith every day.

If you missed the sermon—or just want to watch it again—you can check out the full message in the video below. We’ve also included the discussion questions Pastor Ryan gave us at the end, so you can reflect on them on your own or with others. We hope you’ll take time this week to refocus, realign, and step into the peace that comes from fixing your eyes on Jesus. Let’s continue being a church that brings heaven on earth to our community—one intentional step at a time!

Questions:

  1. If someone followed your daily routine for a week, what would they say your life is most focused on? Would they see a life centered on Christ?

  2. Who in your life could you invite to join you in this journey of refocusing on Jesus? How could you encourage and challenge each other to keep your minds fixed on what is good and godly?

  3. In what ways can we encourage one another to fix our eyes on Jesus throughout the week, not just on Sundays? What rhythms or practices could we implement as a community to help us do this?

  4. What areas of our community are in desperate need of God’s peace, love, and justice? How can we, as a church, bring His presence into those spaces?
